- PLEXOS Solutions Develops Web-Based Sensitivity Tool
- Sacramento, CA - PLEXOS Solutions recently announced a significant new web-based capability designed to evaluate the sensitivity of wholesale electric market prices in the Western Electric Coordinating Committee (WECC) based on changes to uncertain input assumptions. This service is now available to clients of PLEXOS Solutions' WECC Term Price Forecast, a daily web-based information service forecasting trading-hub market prices based on a comprehensive fundamental simulation of the WECC (www.weccterm.com).
- According to Ryan Hoppe, Project Manager for the weccterm information service, this sensitivity capability allows the user to evaluate any load, resource, or fuel very quickly and efficiently. The original pricing solution is determined by using PLEXOS to determine a WECC-wide, least-cost unit commitment and dispatch solution honoring all chronological and system constraints. The trading-hub "deltas" computed by the sensitivity tool are based on a fast linear programming optimization solution that is completed embedded in the web-based service. In addition to the changes in trading-hub prices, the salient constraints for each solution are summarized. Hence, the user can run numerous sensitivity analyses each morning prior to, and during, the trading period to better understand the market prices and potential changes to these prices.
